Germaine Arnaktauyok (Signed) - Wight, Darlene Coward

SIGNED BY GERMAINE ARNAKTAUYOK on title page; Clean, tight, unmarked; light wear to spine edge; some rubbing to front cover close to spine; otherwise minimal wear; Catalogue to accompany an exhibition held at the Winnipeg Art Gallery from Feb 1 to Sept 6, 1998. The exhibition features 52 drawings and prints dating from 1970 to 1997, but it concentrates on her later works. The 1990s has been a very creative time for Arnaktauyok. Her drawings have achieved a new technical and conceptual maturity that goes beyond the narrative and technical skills needed for illustration, and she is translating these drawings into prints. The artist has had a continuing interest in traditional myths and stories of her Iglumiut cultures. In Nov 1997, Arnaktauyok travelled to Winnipeg from Yellowknife to assist with the preparation of this exhibition. She generously participated in several hours of interviews which give insights into her work as well as her life. Information from these interviews has been used in the pages that follow.
