Harriet Martineau On Women - Yates, Gayle Graham

She addressed a wide range of issues, particularly what once was called "the woman question." This collection shows her as a strong advocate for the betterment of the lives of all women, such as middle-class wives locked into stultifying marriages, governesses and servants degraded in their work, and prostitutes. Each section details the reception of Martineau's ideas, and discuss the personal events and psychological pressures that affected her writings.
