SIGNED BY HARRY PINIUTA on title page; Clean, tight, unmarked; some areas of rubbing to dust jacket; light edge wear; a couple of small tears at edges of dust jacket; otherwise very minimal wear; Thirteen Ukrainian pioneers tell their stories in their own words. Of the thousands who arrived before WWI, few were wealthy or well educated. What they brought was courage, and they were to need all they had in the seasons of unemployment and near-starvation. In the hysteria of wartime, some even endured imprisonment in forced-labor camps, on the pretext they were "enemy aliens." In spite of their suffering Ukrainian settler kept their taste for celebration and fun, and their determination to succeed in Canada without giving up their religious and cultural heritage.
