Last Steps to Freedom: The Evolution of Canadian Racism - Boyko, John
Clean, tight, unmarked; p.67 had upper corner turned; otherwise spine straight and uncreased; very minimal wear; As a country, Canada has been guilty of racism in various forms: prejudice, discrimination, officially sanctioned discrimination as well as genocide. Action taken by business and labour groups, school boards professional association, the media, and all three levels of government have created and exploited the ugly emotions that escalate racism in Canada. This book traces the experiences of Chinese, Ukrainian, Jewish, Japanese, Black and Native Canadians. In each case, early activities and contributions by groups and individuals are explored. Figures mysteriously absent from our history books such as Viola Desmond, Big Bear, Ivan Pylipiw and others are celebrated. The systemic racism against which they struggled is explained.
