As the author collected the stories of this long passage she often wept with these women as they recalled their hardships and their losses. she rejoiced with them as they told her about their loves and their triumphs. They showed her the continuity in their individual lives: the lesbian mother whose child is taken from her, only to return 18 years later as a loving gay son; the lover of 20 years who leaves and then becomes a best friend 10 years later; the 65-year-old who falls in love as intensely as she did at 25; the death of a lover of 25 years, followed by the growth of a new lover relationship. These are their stories.
