Clean, tight, unmarked; absolute minimal wear; This exhibition of 69 drawings and the accompanying catalogue will provide a unique opportunity to gain insights into the life of an Inuit woman who experienced the dramatic social, economic, and religious upheavals that occurred in the Canadian Arctic in the 1950s. From 1998 to 2002, Napachie Pootoogook worked on an autobiographical series of drawings that document her early life growing up in traditional camps on south Baffin Island and her later years as the wife of Eegyvudluk Pootoogook. They are narrative drawings depicting real events as she recalled them and include syllabic text describing the events as she recalled them. Being such personal works, they are particularly sensitive and moving as they deal with many of the tougher elements of society. Many of the drawings also have a mystical component to them.
