Uvajuq: The Origin of Death - Pelly, David F.; Crockatt, Kim
SIGNED BY DAVID F. PELLY (Editor) & ELSIE KLENGENBERG (Illustrator) on title page; Written in English and Inuktituk; Clean, tight, unmarked; light wear to inside corners; "Cambridge Bay January 2002" written on ffep; small drop stain to inside edge - does not transfer to pages; otherwise very minimal wear; The legend of Uvajuq, as told here, was collected from a group of Inuit elders in the Nunavut community of Cambridge Bay, 300 km north of the Arctic Circle. On the surface, it is the story of how three prominent hills near the community were formed. Underlying that is a mysterious tale of much deeper significance. Chapters are included on the people of the area, how they lived, the people meet the newcomers, myth & reality, and a profile of the Inuit artist Elsie Anaginak Klengenberg and how she creates her prints.
