As New; Tina Wiens doesn't fit in. She isn't popular like her cousin Lorraine, and she's always questioning the strict ways of the Mennonite community in Homer, ON. Life becomes even more difficult when her older sister gets pregnant and won't be getting married. As Tina struggles to deal with the community's disapproval, she also struggles to face a frightening secret from her own past. Then she's invited to spend the summer helping Tante Tina, the independent, lively women for whom she was named. Through a summer of hard, satisfying work in the garden and orchard, Tina begins to carve out her own identity and independence.
