Clean, tight, unmarked; store stamp on ffep; slight wear to bottom inside edge; otherwise very minimal wear; Working class Annie Kenney rose from humble beginnings to the leadership of one of the best-known protest groups, the Suffragettes. In October 1905 Christobel Pankhurst and Annie Kenney dared to interrupt a Liberal Party meeting in Manchester by asking whether a Liberal government would support votes for women. They were arrested and imprisoned. This marked the beginning of militant action. Annie was imprisoned many times, enduring hunger and thirst strikes. She was willing to endanger her health and even her life for a cause in which she passionately believed.
